How to Make Hummus

A simple and delicious recipe for homemade hummus.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups cooked chickpeas drained and rinsed
  • 0.25 cup tahini well-stirred
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil extra virgin
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons water as needed to adjust consistency

Preparation Steps

  • In a food processor, combine the tahini and lemon juice. Process for 1 minute to whip.
  • Add the olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, and salt to the whipped tahini and lemon juice. Process for 30 seconds.
  • Add half of the chickpeas to the food processor and process for 1 minute. Scrape sides, then add remaining chickpeas and process for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • If the hummus is too thick, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water as needed. Process until smooth.

Notes

Serve hummus with pita bread, fresh veggies, or as a spread on sandwiches.
