Runza Casserole Recipe

A comforting and flavorful casserole inspired by the classic Runza sandwich. This recipe features layers of seasoned ground beef, sauerkraut, and melted cheese, all baked to perfection.

  • 1 lb Ground beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 cup Sauerkraut drained
  • 1 cup Diced onion
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in sauerkraut and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Transfer the beef mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

Serve hot. This casserole can be easily doubled for a larger crowd.
