Perfect Scones

Flaky, buttery scones perfect for any occasion. This recipe yields delicious scones with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup milk cold

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the cold milk and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick circle.
  • Use a 2-inch biscuit cutter or knife to cut out scones. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with butter, jam, or clotted cream.
