  • 1 medium yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup cremini mushrooms cleaned and sliced
  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon freeze dried basil
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • crackers for serving
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • butter for greasing baking dish

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the sliced onion for 3 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until mushrooms are tender, about 3 minutes.
  • Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, dried oregano, and basil; cook until the meat is browned.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce and cook for 3 minutes until heated through.
  • Grease an 8-inch round baking dish with butter.
  • Spread softened cream cheese evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Layer the meat mixture over the cream cheese, then top with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
  • Serve warm with crackers.
