  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter Use high-quality butter for best flavor
  • 4 cups thinly sliced onions Yellow onions work best
  • 1 teaspoon sugar To help caramelize the onions
  • 1 cup beef broth Low sodium preferred
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme Chopped

Preparation Steps

  • Turn on the Instant Pot and select the Sauté function. Add the butter and allow it to melt.
  • Add sliced onions and stir occasionally, letting them caramelize for about 10 minutes.
  • Add the sugar and continue to stir until the onions are a deep golden brown.
  • Pour in the beef broth and add the thyme. Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to Pressure Cook on high for 15 minutes.
  • Once cooking is complete, carefully release the pressure and serve hot.

Notes

For added flavor, top each bowl with a slice of toasted baguette and melted Gruyère cheese.
