Homemade Naan Bread

  • 1 cup Warm water 105-115°F
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Melted butter for brushing

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour, salt, and yogurt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Punch down dough and divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape.
  • Cook naan on a hot griddle or baking sheet for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Brush with melted butter.
