This homemade cracker jack recipe brings back the classic crunchy, sweet, and salty caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts, made right in your kitchen.

  • 10 cups popped popcorn about 1/2 cup unpopped
  • 2 cups peanuts unsalted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup butter unsalted
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine popped popcorn and peanuts.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla extract. The mixture will bubble up.
  • Pour the caramel mixture over the popcorn and peanuts, stirring to coat evenly.
  • Spread the coated popcorn evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.

Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
