Homemade Burger Buns

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Stir in oil and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
  • Place buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

These buns are best served fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
