This easy Red White Blue Snack Mix is a sweet and salty treat perfect for summer gatherings! It's a fun and festive dish to bring to any potluck, picnic, or party, especially for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day!
In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the red candy melts with 1 tablespoon of shortening. If using the microwave, heat in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. If using a double boiler, heat over medium-high heat and stir frequently until smooth.
While the candy is melting, place 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar in a large zip-close baggie. Lay out a piece of parchment or wax paper for cooling the cereal.
Once the candy has melted, pour in one cup of Rice Chex cereal. Gently stir until the cereal is completely and evenly coated with the candy mixture.
Spoon the coated cereal into the baggie and gently toss and shake the bag to coat the cereal with powdered sugar. Pour the covered cereal into a sieve and shake to remove excess powdered sugar.
Spread evenly across the prepared wax paper or parchment to cool and harden.
Repeat the melting and coating process with the blue candy melts and the second cup of Chex cereal.
Once your Chex cereal is completely cooled, it's time to assemble the snack mix.
In a large bowl, combine the red and blue Chex cereal, yogurt-covered pretzels, M&Ms, and yogurt-covered raisins. Gently stir to evenly distribute all the ingredients.
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
