Easy Chicken and Dumplings

This easy chicken and dumplings recipe is a comforting classic, perfect for a chilly evening. Tender chicken and fluffy dumplings simmer in a savory broth.

  • 1.5 lbs Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 0.25 cup Butter, melted
  • 1 cup Chopped onion
  • 2 stalks Celery, chopped
  • 2 carrots Carrots, chopped
  • 0.5 tsp Dried thyme
  • 0.5 tsp Dried sage

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine chicken breasts and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until chicken is cooked through, about 20 minutes.
  • Remove chicken from pot and shred with two forks. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk and melted butter; stir until a shaggy dough forms. Drop by spoonfuls into the simmering broth.
  • Add the chopped onion, celery, and carrots to the broth, along with the thyme and sage. Bring to a simmer. Cover and cook until vegetables are tender, about 15 minutes.
  • Add the shredded chicken back to the pot. Simmer for another 5 minutes, or until dumplings are cooked through.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Serve with a side of crusty bread for dipping!
