Classic Patty Melt

A juicy beef patty, melted cheese, and caramelized onions all nestled between two slices of grilled rye bread. This classic Patty Melt is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

  • 0.25 pound Ground beef 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 slice Rye bread
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 medium Onion thinly sliced
  • 1 slice Cheddar cheese

Preparation Steps

  • Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter and saute onions until caramelized.
  • Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Grill bread in a skillet or panini press until golden brown.
  • Assemble the Patty Melt: Place cooked beef on one slice of bread, top with caramelized onions and cheese. Cover with other slice of bread.
  • Grill the assembled sandwich until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.

Notes

Serve immediately with your favorite condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.
