A creamy and delicious Vietnamese dessert, Banh Flan, features a smooth custard base topped with a layer of caramel. This recipe provides a step-by-step guide to making this delightful treat at home.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a saucepan, combine milk and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
In a bowl, whisk together eggs and vanilla extract. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
Pour the custard mixture into ramekins. Place ramekins in a baking dish and pour hot water into the dish, reaching halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until the custards are set. Let cool completely before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.
Notes
For a richer caramel, use brown sugar. Enjoy chilled!
