  • 3 cups peeled and sliced apples Use a mix of apple varieties for best flavor.
  • 2 cups peeled and sliced pears Choose ripe but firm pears.
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the apples, pears, oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour the fruit mixture into a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.
