Texas Roadhouse’s Rolls

Texas Roadhouse Rolls are famous for their fluffy texture and slightly sweet flavor, making them a standout at any meal. Perfectly golden and served with cinnamon butter, these rolls are a delightful addition to your dinner table. With this recipe, you can recreate these iconic rolls at home for a crowd-pleasing treat that pairs beautifully with soups, salads, or as a snack on their own!

Ingredients

For the Rolls:

  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Cinnamon Butter:

  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup (50g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the Dough:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.
  4. First Rise:
    Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls:
    Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Cut into squares or rectangles and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Bake the Rolls:
    Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Make the Cinnamon Butter:
    In a small bowl, mix softened butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon until smooth.
  8. Serve:
    Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and serve with the cinnamon butter.

Notes

  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the dough ahead of time and let it rise overnight in the refrigerator. Let it come to room temperature before shaping.
  • Freezing Tip: Freeze unbaked rolls after the first rise. Thaw, let rise, and bake as directed.
